We are Jews, this is our home – and we will lose it – from the inside - if we cannot learn to respect each other’s beliefs.

One of the advantages of living in Israel, and it is one that anyone who lives here should take full advantage of, is the shuk. One of the things I love about the finer foods in great restaurants are the sauces, perhaps that is why I chose to focus my culinary studies on the art of sauce making, a.k.a. saucier. A good sauce is a rich, creamy and velvety smooth liquid that is bursting with a myriad of flavors and [...]

One of the things I miss terribly about New York, America for that matter, is good Chinese takeout. I am not saying that the Chinese food in Israel is bad – but when you grow up next to Chinatown and you are surrounded by hoards of immigrants and children of immigrants who know what the food is supposed to be like, you cannot compare. The fact is, many of the Chinese establishments in Israel are not Chinese food – it is food based on a what the owners consider to be authentic based on their treks to the Orient. There is a real difference between food cooked by a Chinese person and food cooked by someone who has visited China.

One of the things I love about Israel is the Fruit. And yes, while I had more a variety to choose from all year long in New York, there is something nice about the seasonality of the produce in Israel. I mentioned this several times before and I guess I will continue to do so as I try to understand why. I swear that the veggies are better here, and perhaps that is partly due to the "longing effect" - or in other words, things taste better when they are new.
